Canadian maple syrup cookies
To get these famous cookies with such a characteristic taste, you can of course base yourself on your usual cookie recipe and substitute the sugar and part of the liquid with maple syrup.
To make it easier for you, we share the following recipe for about thirty cookies, ideal for a gourmet snack.
Ingredients :
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup softened butter
- 2 cups of Maple syrup
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups flour
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
Start by preheating the oven to 190°C. Place the softened butter in a large bowl or salad bowl. Add the baking powder, eggs, nutmeg or cinnamon and salt one at a time, while mixing.
Then add the maple syrup and milk, continuing to mix. Then add the flour little by little, and mix continuously to avoid the formation of lumps. Finally add the oat flakes, stirring the dough.
Then take out a plate, which you will grease with oil or butter. You can also use buttered parchment paper. Drop well-spaced heaps of dough on top with a tablespoon.
Bake for 15 minutes.
For even more indulgent cookies, you can add a cup of nuts to your recipe. Think of slivered almonds or other crushed nuts!

To make cookies with a melting center and crispy edges, follow our recipe! Ingredients for around twenty cookies: 580 g flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons salt 125 g softened butter 125 g brown sugar 1 egg 100 g brown maple syrup Vanilla extract Maple syrup extract Pour the flour into a large bowl, add the baking powder, salt and stir with a whisk. In another container, mix the softened butter and the brown sugar until you obtain a creamy consistency. Add to this mixture: the egg, the maple syrup as well as the vanilla and maple syrup extracts. Then gradually add the mixture of flour, salt and baking powder.
It is important to chill the dough for the best results. Keep in the fridge for at least 2 hours. It can also perfectly stay cold all night to be cooked the next day.
To bake, preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a sheet of parchment paper or a silicone pan on a plate. Make one and a half tablespoon balls of dough. You can also use an ice cream scoop to go faster.
Leave enough space between each ball, as they will expand as they cook. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes, until the edges are crispy.
If the cookies are slightly puffy when you remove them from the oven, tap the baking sheet against the counter to deflate them a little. This will also crack them on top. Let cool on the silicone tray or on the baking sheets for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
You can also add crushed walnuts to the recipe for even more indulgence. The taste of maple syrup perfectly complements that of nuts. Almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts or walnuts: the choice is yours! For even more flavor, we advise you to toast your nuts before incorporating them into the preparation. To do this, you can heat them in a pan until brown, or even gently toast them in the oven. Be careful to watch while cooking, because they quickly take on color!
