Discover Quebec rums
If Puerto Rico has always been the first producer of rum in the world, Canada is now becoming one of the most powerful distilleries. The province of Quebec has indeed played a major role in this transition, notably with the creation of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ). Currently, Quebec rum is doing perfectly well and is enjoying great success with both local and foreign consumers. Let's discover Quebec rums: the specificities as well as the different types.
The specificity of Quebec rums
Quebec has been home to many Canadian distilleries for decades. There are nearly 200 ranges of spirits (wines, rums, gin, whisky, etc.) produced across the province. Indeed, Quebec monopolizes the spirits manufacturing and trade sector in Canada. In addition, it is good to know that the tasting and sale of alcoholic beverages has been authorized on production sites since 2018.
Like the whiskey and gin, Quebec rum is an exceptional product. Developed with real traditional know-how, this type of spirits is marketed under the aegis of the SAQ, a government corporation that holds the monopoly on the purchase, import and trade of alcoholic beverages in Quebec. In particular, there are different types of locally produced rums in the province: white, amber, flavored, spicy, brown, black rum and many more.
Rhum Sainte-Marie: a well-spiced spirit
Sainte-Marie Quebec spiced rum is a spirit from Maison des Futailles Station 22. With its pink hue, we immediately find the beautiful flavors of cranberry and cantaloupe as well as carrot extract. To complete it all, sweet notes of allspice, Sichuan pepper and star anise complete the exquisite aromas of this much-loved rum.
A tip for your cocktails? Sainte-Marie rum goes perfectly with the citrus liqueur. Experiment with all the recipes to create an explosive cocktail.
Chic Choc: a rum with character
Rhum Chic Choc is a spirit produced with boreal spices 100 % Quebecers. We find in particular aromas of ginger and vanilla, accentuating the strong taste in the mouth. Made by Les Spiritueux Ungava Cie Ltée in Montérégie, this amber colored rum contains 42.1 % of alcohol and is bottled in a 750 ml format.
For those who like spicier beverages, the Chic Choc chocolate range is made for you. In addition to the flavors of caramel, coffee and cocoa, you will smell the infusion of 10 spices collected in the Monts Chic-Chocs massif in Gaspésie. Prestige spirits, Rhum Chic Choc noir is made from rums aged in barrels.
Amber Morbleu: rum with 5 spices
Morbleu is an amber rum dominated by spicy notes of cardamom, star anise, cinnamon, rosemary and vanilla. Recognized for its silky texture, it is also distinguished by its light minty flavors, giving it a feeling of freshness in the mouth. From the range of spirits offered by Distillerie Mariana Inc. in Mauricie, Morbleu amber rum contains 40.3 % and is marketed in a 750 ml format. Produced and bottled in Quebec, this spirit is one of the most well-known and consumed alcoholic beverages in Canada.
Recently, Distillerie Mariana Inc. spoiled us with its range of Morbleu black rum spiced with chocolate. The basic ingredients having been preserved, tasty notes of chocolate and caramel offer a pleasant finish in the mouth.
Rhum Rosemont: a range of spirits to discover without further delay
Among the best in the world, Rosemont Brown Rum – Aged 03 years reflects the finesse and elegance of Quebec distilleries. As its name suggests, this molasses-based spirit benefited from an aging time of 03 years in oak barrels. You will discover delicious notes of chocolate and caramel, all perfectly balanced with a woody and spicy taste tag. With a high alcohol content (45 %), this rum offers a full-bodied and intense finish.
Acolytes Rhum: an infusion of high quality rums
A good glass of rum to end the day? Discover Acolytes Rhum, a spirit flavored with root beer. Low in alcohol content (35%), this beverage signed BluePearl Distillerie comes from a blend of rums from Wedderburn and the Caribbean. On the nose, subtle aromas of orange, camphor, sassafras and sarsaparilla emerge. Soft on the palate, this rum is ideal to be prepared in cocktails, served for dinner and for dessert. Sold in a 750 ml bottle, the Acolytes Rhum has not revealed all its secrets.
Bold Spicy: a rum that is out of the ordinary
Another bottle to discover at Quebec distilleries, the Bold Spiced Rum is a spirit made from local products. The result of long research and experimentation, it is distinguished in particular by the originality of its flavors. Indeed, Bold Rum contains extracts of spruce needle and dune pepper, spices that are rarely used for the manufacture of alcoholic beverages. To enhance it all, a subtle hint of vanilla is added to the beverage, in order to bring a more exotic touch.
The Archipel Premium: exoticism at the rendezvous
Archipel Premium amber and spiced rum is produced by Breuvages Trybec Inc. in Quebec. Aged in barrels to offer the best drink to consumers, this spirit was inspired by delicious West Indian rums.
